The Visitors

from LiveCopper

I heard the strangest sound early this morning that my mind couldn't resist coming out of a deep sleep for. It was that high pitched warbling that reminds you of hot, humid summer days with waves and surf as the backdrop. It was the call of Seagulls!

As it turns out, two Seagulls decided to take a few loops just above our roof. Granted, we are close to the East River by about 2 blocks, but rarely do they ever venture inland. For me, it was that last little nudge I needed to finally feel that spring is coming! And I'm soooo ready!!

Seagulls are so funny to me...some of them actually do venture inland. I used to see them all the time when I lived in Bed-Stuy. I always wondered why they were so far from the water...maybe just hanging out with the pigeons!

Seagulls not venture past the water? We live in ND...oh yeah, no foolin...and the seagulls follow the farmers tractors when they are planting eating all the good stuff they turn up. I had to actually ask to make sure I was seeing the right bird. I had no clue they came this far inland after living on the waters of the East coast. Now how weird is that?

Boylerpf, that's too funny that you mention that as growing up in WI, I always remember them floating around the Kmart parking lot!

But seriously, we've lived here for over 5 years and this is only the 2nd known time to have ever heard them!

Oh yeah! We get them in the parking lots and cornfields, but I know what you mean...the sound is so strongly associated with summer...probably a little disorienting. :^)

Oh seagulls! I can't wait for the weather to start warming up, so I can visit them at the beach!
