*FEATURED ARTIST of the week* ~~GetReadySetGo~~

Get Ready Set GO!

1. What is your craft?

in short i take vintage luggage and give it new life! i love to bring out the very best in every piece. then i kick it into high gear with a bit o' personality. i try to leave room if the customer wants to customize it even further with initials or a quote that speaks to them. like my logo reads "Luggage for the Unique & the GeeK"

2. What led you to take it up?

i had to do something with all of the creative ideas in my head! for years they have been wrapped up in journals and sketchbooks that sit on my bookshelves and in my garage in huge plastic bins with lids. i love luggage- each piece has got character more coming out of it's latches than one can even begin to imagine......dream on my friends.

3. Which part of your work do you most enjoy?

meeting the people that purchase and love my stuff. it's so satisfying to get positive feedback from clients. i also adore the fact that i can sit in my office/study at midnight with my christmas lights glowing (and yes i leave them up year-round) my music blasting out of my stereo and "getting my upcycle on". it's cathartic, peaceful- it's pure joy!!!!!!!!

4. Which part do you find hardest?

not turning into a machine. not mass producing the same thing. i like putting a new twist on my designs but keeping what people love about the originals as well. BALANCE is my biggest struggle.

5. Where do you get your inspiration?

this is hard because i've answered it so many times and i kind of want to use the same answer in my most recent interview because i feel i really nailed it......

it's in everything i hear and see. music inspires me, the random moments of life that i find myself compelled to photograph, the things in life we miss because we're too busy running forward, passing the scenery without looking at it or taking the time to reflect on it.

6. Do you participate in any etsy groups, and if so, which ones?

i don't! there really hasn't been a group that i feel is perfect for me because i sort of do something really different from the norm. i'm sure if i took the time to seek out the perfect group i would TOTALLY find it but the luggage has kept me so busy that i haven't sought one out. it's on my list of things to do!

7. What's one material your shop can't live without?

i can't give away my secret ingredient... but it's the tool that allows me to get into great detail with my designs and drawings. i really would be at a loss without it.

8. What is your favorite item that you have purchased off of Etsy?

i have 2:

a. IRENESUCHOCKI's Sentimental Journey - 8x8 Fine Art Print

because she bought one of the very first train cases i ever upcycled and then turned it into a mgical print- that i didn't even recognize was mine until i convoed her to tell her how much i adored it and was SHOCKED to find out it was the case i made!

b. THE BLACK APPLE's A Good Egg is Hard to Find Print

i'm a sucker for emily martin's art.

9. If I could sell one item from my shop today, it would be...

UPCYCLED Red White and Blue Striped Mini Briefcase for a MACBOOK with a HANDPAINTED Black forest of TREES

because it is so dang cute and perfect for a macbook. i really cannot believe it hasn't sold but at the same time i want the PERFECT person who will love and sherish this piece for all that it is to buy it..... so i will wait til that day comes:)

10. If I had enough money to pick one item on my wish list from any shop on etsy to buy, it would be...

something from LARIMELOOM! i absolutely just love her stuff to pieces, i woud get these 2 coats:

Little Grey Herrigbone coat

little black coat

and these:
black satin fingerless gloves

then i would have her custom make me a red dress!

11. What are the top three favorite items currently listed in your store?

a. UPCYCLED Grey Metallic VINTAGE Suitcase with White Forest of Trees and Leaf

b. UPCYCLED Cherry Red VINTAGE Train Case with HAND DRAWN Black ZWZZY scissorhands man in my dreams

c. UPCYCLED Aqua Blue VINTAGE Suitcase Set with Black Bird Crow Forest of Trees and Skeleton Key

12. What undiscovered artisans would you recommend the world to know?

Annie Stela - singer, songwriter (writes ALL of her own stuff and plays piano and sings it all too!)

Kelly Haigh- official website

i LOVE her carnivale section. she's get such brilliant stuff. i think i would be too scared at night if i had her art in my house but man alive is her mind ELECTRICALLY STUNNING.

13. What is the best advice you have ever received?

just keep on doing what you love. push forward and ALWAYS stay positive. the support and encouragement from my family and the friends i have met here on ETSY i will be ETERNALLY grateful to.
