*FEATURED ARTIST of the week* ~~WhimsyHouse~~

WhimsyHouse

1. What do you create?

For Whimsy House, I create felt and fabric embroidered brooches and other "whimsies" (aka whatever I can embellish with them!)

I also have a supplies shop called Fabric House - it's mostly decorator fabrics and some vintage buttons.

2. What led you to take up your craft?

I've always loved making things and have 1 bazillion or more ideas... I adore fabric but stink at using a sewing machine so I only sew by hand. My grandma taught me to cross stich years ago... I took her tips, took out the "cross" and started cutting, sewing and creating. I love rustic, whimsical things - I'm not a perfectionist like seamstresses need to be - thus Whimsy House was born.

I also have vintage in my shop. My parents are big into primitive antiques and it rubbed off on me. I had an antiques and gift shop with my mom for awhile... With Whimsy House the size of the antiques have changed (no more furniture!) but the drive for a treasure is still there!

3. Which part of your work do you most enjoy?

Not knowing what will happen when I cut, choose a thread color and start sewing! I love to see what "happens," I rarely have a plan (too much pressure!) I love putting colors, fabrics and textures together - I get some of this thrill through my interior design work - this is my whimsical outlet. And the feedback from happy customers is the cherry on top - I love to know I've made someone smile!

4. Which part do you find hardest?

The balancing act. Finding time to do my craft... With a 4 year old, 1 year old, husband :) and interior design business I just don't have enough hours in my day. I have to admit, my Etsy shop sometimes takes top priority which I know isn't how life is intended to be lead... opps!

Also, my house would not win any Good House Keeping awards for orderliness. I just have to concentrate on keeping threads, buttons, needles etc. off the floor so Sophie (1 year old) doesn't eat them... SURVIVAL is a good day around here!

5. Where do you get your inspiration?

Humm... EVERYWHERE as far as my brooches go.

I think my inspiration to craft is definately because of my Grammy (I wish she was still here today to see my shop!) She was always making things, painting things, crafting things... I know I could never be an artist is the classical sense and had she not shown me to create even if it's not "perfect" I probably wouldn't have my Etsy shop.

6. Do you participate in any etsy groups, and if so, which ones?

Yes - I just joined the Wisconsin Street Team and I'm so excited to be a new member.

I hope to make some great connections there and find a show or two to try out in the near future.

7. What's one material your shop can't live without?

FABRIC!

8. What is your favorite item that you have purchased off of Etsy?

Oh my - how ever would I choose?!?! Since I discovered Etsy last February I have hardly left home for a gift (and I LOVE to give gifts!) I had over 32 purchases in a month under my first user name, AngelicRabbit, and I keep going strong with Whimsy House. Hummm...

I love this unique toy holder that I purchased to use for my daughters first Easter Basket - unique and awesome in person!

I love 32lives for her creative use of wine corks (I wish I could put all mine to use!!) - I bought all my Valentine's gifts for girl friends from her.

This hat for my daughter brought more smiles then I can count!

These party favors for my 4 years olds Princess Party were a fabulous find - the price and quality... truly amazing!

I'll be here all day... I have loved EVERYTHING I've found on Etsy - truly an amazing place. Thank you!

And I totally forgot about my favorite item because my husband actually bought it (with tons of "suggesting") when I looked through my purchases!

9. If I could sell one item from my shop today, it would be...

A pocket full of posies set - they are so sweet in person... I love them! To have for yourself or split up as gifts... they're just so cute. Not sure why they haven't sold yet?!?

And I just listed my new button brooches which are so cool in person - I can't wait to sell them... I don't think the pictures do them justice. Hummm....

10. If I had enough money to pick one item on my wish list from any shop on etsy to buy, it would be...

Oh gracious, I don't let myself dream too big... I guess I would love a fabulous felted wool purse/tote/bag.

I always love pearls and leather together... that would be where I would search (if I could!)

Oh, and I haven't even let myself look at oil paintings... we are building a new house and until then, no new house "stuff" allowed... so I can't tempt myself!

I LOVE THIS!

11. What are the top three favorite items currently listed in your store?

12. What undiscovered artisans would you recommend the world to know?

OneRipePeach

- I adore her shop... I seriously can't let myself look there or I buy everytime!

Vusova and

TheFlashBulb are two artists I want to buy from...

If I go any further, I will spill off the pages... It's a snowball thing, once I start I won't be able to stop!

13. What is the best advice you have ever received?

"Don't cross that bridge until you come to it."

My Dad tells me that every time I start to worry about something. It really has nothing to do with my Etsy shops but I'm a worrier so I have to pull that advice out often!!

Great interview! I love that she purchased 32 items from Etsy in one month - that makes me feel better about my little etsy shopping splurges!
